GGDo you know the Lift Escalator and Passenger Conveyor Regulations?

Did you know that under Section 43 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act , 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993), regulations have been published that apply to persons who have on their premises lifts, escalators or passenger conveyors, including those installed in a private residence. These regulations stipulate many aspects required by the Department of Labour in respect of lifting equipment such as:

  • Permission to install and use (Regulation 3)
  • Design and construction (Regulation 4)
  • Particulars of lifts, escalators and passenger conveyors (Regulation 5)
  • Inspections and tests (Regulation 6)
  • Maintenance (Regulation 7)
  • Record keeping (Regulation 8)

By entering into a maintenance agreement, an owner/user deputizes the responsibility in terms of these regulations to a lift service provider to ensure compliance.

If you need help to comply with these regulations please feel free to contact us.
